Go Daddy Domain Registration - Not A Fan
Now I've gotten used to using Netfirms to register domains (especially .ca domains) but it seemed like every time I registered I had to go through CIRA registration even for .com registrations. So I have been recently using GoDaddy instead and subsequently registered $130 plus in domains. Apparently in all the spam in the Go Daddy shopping cart it prompts you for auto renewal of your domains. I don’t remember seeing that. These domains will probably not last more than a year since they are for individual properties (hopefully the agents sell them within a year
). Anyone that has ever ordered a domain from GoDaddy could attest to the confusion it can put you in with all the upselling.
Automatically Billed
Apparently GoDaddy doesn’t inform you that they are about to expire and just automatically bill you. Anyways I went to cancel the auto-renewal and actually ended up canceling all the domains I just registered. So when I finally realized that none of the domains worked I got a little panicked.
Go Daddy Service?
Sure enough I called Go Daddy and the lady I was talking who was nice enough, re-instated what I thought was all of my domains. I was happy enough. But one of them must have slipped through the system. I called back and the guy insisted it was gone. Gone Gone Gone. So I had to buy the one domain all over again. He was also not in the best of moods...Apparently he has the final word and couldn't pass me on to a higher person. He also didn't agree with my spammy view of their site. The good thing is I learned my lesson at a small cost. Go Daddy is sneaky. They just throw up so many add-ons in hoping the trick you into buying more or in this case auto renewal. In the end the mistake could have cost me over $130 but it didn't. Long story short is I’m still looking for the best place to pick up domains.
