I recently purchased a new laptop this weekend so I figured I would share it with you. Just for the record I do have a bias towards Dell computers since my previous computer was a four year old Dell and it still worked perfectly for almost everything. I actually have it lined up to sell once I get a new battery for it. Basically the only reason I got a new one was I wanted something a little more powerful for webdesigning and also something I could hook up to my TV ( I use my computer as an entertainment center). And of course I wanted something a little less dated in looks.
Dell
Dell is unbeatable as far as I'm concerned for getting what you pay for. This is because they cut out the middle man and sell direct to consumer. I would recommend a Dell Inspiron for the average user who just wants to check the internet, use Microsoft Office and what have you. I have experience with numerous models and they are all good.
Apple
Undoubtedly the hot thing these days. Everyone that gets an Apple seems to love them. But as far as I'm concerned a big percentage of the Apple price tag is for brand image. AKA you can get the same amount of power way cheaper with a dell. With that in mind though, I must say they look pretty sweet. I would recommend Apple's for people who are heavy in design work or those who just want something cool and different perhaps to impress potential customers.

My Laptop
I ended up getting a Dell XPS M1330 which is a higher end Dell computer. It's got a lot of power and it looks good for a reasonable price. It's a combination of Dell price and Apple looks with superior performance. Anyways I'm looking forward to getting it. Some Helpful Definitions: Processor - Is the main power behind the computer. It's the engine. Memory Card - Is the temporary storage of data. The more memory the better the computer is at running multiple programs. Hard disk - Is the main storage system.
