2007 World Search Engine Usage By Continents

Search is becoming a universal tool around the world for people browsing the internet.  Table 2.0 below breaks down the search volume by region. Approximately 750 million people worldwide used search for the month of August, 2007 (Endid). 

It is interesting to note that North America is ranked third for continents in terms of search usage.  This is due to its comparatively low population.

Importance of Search Engine Positioning

Research has shown that the position of your website on a search result can drastically affect your performance.  Information shows that people rarely go beyond the top 30 search results.  “In fact, the top 30 results get over 90% of search traffic and the top 10 results receive nearly 80% more traffic than those in positions 11-30 achieve.”  (WSW)  

If you have ever used a search engine you will know this experience personally.  Further research, reveals that 62% of search engine users click on a search result within the first page of results, and 90% of search engine users click on a result within the first three pages of search results (Yahoo).
